Seriously, When is the iPhone 5 Release Date?

I wake up about 5:00 a.m. to get ready for my train into NYC. As much as I love the city, I’m a full-on country girl. Roots in Texas. I like things quiet. I choose to live “upstate.” I like to spend my nights sleeping in a room that isn’t permeated with the noise of ambulances, irritated taxi drivers, or impatient Westechesterites trying to race home for 15 minutes of quality time with the kids after three rounds of dirty martinis.
I like my days filled with the stimuli of the city, but my nights are best filled with not much more than crickets chirping. Therefore, I live in what’s commonly known around the city as “the sticks.” I make no apologies. And I have closets.
But as quiet as things are around the house, I can’t help but be awakened lately by the nagging question in my head that somehow can’t be satiated: “When is the damn iPhone 5 coming out?”
You see, I held onto my iPhone 3G for a little too long. And like a rotten banana, it’s way past its expiration date.
I tend to get gadgets on or around generation 2. As much as I’d been dreaming of an iPhone years before it was a beam in Steve Jobs’ eye, when it came out I did my typical gadget reticence dance and didn’t pounce. Wanted to give it some time to simmer. I’m a feature ho and wanted a device that “has it all.” (I tell myself not having the cut-and-paste feature was the clincher.) I waited for about a year or so and finally got the 3G. I was in love.
But alas, as all good love affairs tend to dissolve, so did my feelings for the 3G.
Lately it’s a ball and chain. I want to surf the internet. It whines about having a headache. I want to download updates to apps, it’s having “that time of the month.” I want to Shazam something, and it “had a hard day at work.” As the 3G limps along, I’m bursting blood vessels.
So at 3:00 a.m. when I should be fast asleep, getting juiced up for another day in the concrete jungle, I’m Googling “iPhone 5 release date.” Yeah, thank me Googlers for not having to type in the entire search term. Because I’ve been typing it pretty much daily since about April.
With all that late-night article reading, here’s what I can tell you with some amount of certainty:
The iPhone 5 is coming out soon and it’s going to be linked to the iCloud launch. Yeah, duh.
Here’s what I can tell you with a little certainty:
Verizon’s CEO hinted that it will be launched in September.
Most industry observers think it’s going to be September or October.
A couple of wet blankets think it’s going to be a November launch.
There’s probably not going to be any dorky 4GS.
Someone claims to have seen a somewhat obscured iPhone 5 prototype on a train.
The iCloud launches in “the fall” so it’s assumed the iPhone 5 will be launched at the same time.
If I was a gambling woman (and on occasion I am) I’d say it would be a September announcement and a late September, early October launch.
So far the best round-up of the “when is the iPhone 5 release” question is this video that was posted on YouTube on August 10th:
What do you think? Placing any bets on the release date?
